About the Overtime Calculator
Overtime can add up fast. This calculator combines your regular and overtime hours — at time-and-a-half or double time — into weekly and annual pay.
How it’s calculated
Weekly pay = (regular hours × rate) + (overtime hours × rate × multiplier). Annual pay multiplies the weekly total by the weeks you work.
Example calculation
At $25/hour with 40 regular hours plus 8 overtime hours at 1.5×, you earn $1,300 in a week.
Frequently asked questions
When does overtime apply?
Under US federal law, most non-exempt employees earn at least 1.5× their regular rate for hours over 40 in a workweek. Some states have daily overtime rules; exempt salaried roles may not qualify.
Is overtime taxed more?
No — overtime is taxed at the same rates as regular pay. A bigger paycheck can push more into a higher withholding bracket for that period, but the tax rate on overtime itself isn't special.
