About the Hourly-to-Salary Calculator

If you're paid by the hour, it can be hard to compare your income to salaried roles. This calculator converts your hourly rate — including any overtime — into weekly, monthly, and annual figures, and shows your effective hourly rate once overtime pay is blended in.

How it’s calculated

Weekly base = hourly rate × regular hours. Overtime = hourly rate × overtime multiplier × overtime hours. Weekly total = base + overtime. Annual = weekly total × weeks worked per year. Effective hourly = annual ÷ (total hours worked per year).

Example calculation

At $30/hour for 40 hours a week plus 5 overtime hours at 1.5×, you earn $1,200 base + $225 overtime = $1,425 per week. Over 50 weeks that's $71,250 per year, with an effective rate of about $31.67/hour once overtime is included.

Frequently asked questions

How many weeks should I use per year?

A full year is 52 weeks. If you take unpaid time off, use fewer weeks — for example, 50 weeks to account for two weeks of unpaid vacation. Paid time off still counts as worked weeks.

How does overtime affect my effective rate?

Overtime is usually paid at a higher multiplier (often 1.5×), so it raises your average — or effective — hourly rate above your base rate. The more overtime you work, the higher your blended rate.

Does this account for taxes?

No, this converts gross (pre-tax) hourly pay into gross salary. To estimate take-home pay after taxes, use the Salary Calculator with the annual figure this tool produces.
