About the GPA Calculator

Enter your letter grades (or grade points) and the credit hours for each course to get your credit-weighted GPA on the standard 4.0 scale, along with total quality points and credits.

How it’s calculated

GPA = Σ(grade points × credit hours) ÷ Σ(credit hours), with A = 4.0, B = 3.0, and so on.

Example calculation

Grades A, B+, A-, B with credits 3, 4, 3, 3 give a GPA of about 3.48.

Frequently asked questions

Does it use plus/minus grades?

Yes — A- is 3.7, B+ is 3.3, and so on, using the common unweighted 4.0 scale. You can also enter numeric grade points directly.

How are credit hours used?

Each course's grade is weighted by its credits, so a 4-credit course affects your GPA more than a 1-credit one. That's what makes GPA a weighted average.
