About the PTO Accrual Calculator
Paid time off usually accrues a little each paycheck. This calculator converts your per-period accrual into days earned per year and month, and projects your balance if you don't use it.
How it’s calculated
Annual PTO hours = accrual per pay period × pay periods per year. Days = hours ÷ hours per workday.
Example calculation
Accruing 4 hours per biweekly paycheck (26 periods) earns 104 hours — about 13 days — a year.
Frequently asked questions
What is an accrual cap?
A maximum balance you can bank; once reached, you stop accruing until you use some. Many plans also limit how much rolls over each year, so unused time can be lost.
Is PTO paid out if I leave?
It depends on your employer and state. Some states require unused PTO to be paid at separation; others leave it to company policy.
