About the Job Offer Comparison Calculator

The highest base salary isn't always the best offer. This calculator adds up the whole package — bonus, retirement match, the dollar value of PTO, health premiums you pay, commute costs, and remote-work savings — so you can compare two offers on total effective compensation, in dollars per year.

How it’s calculated

Total effective comp = base + bonus + (match% × base) + PTO value (days × daily pay) + remote savings − health premiums − commute costs, for each offer. The higher total wins.

Example calculation

A $95,000 offer with 20 PTO days, a 5% match, cheap health, and remote work can beat a $105,000 offer with 12 PTO days, a pricey plan, and a commute — by roughly $7,000 a year in real terms.

Frequently asked questions

How do I value PTO?

Each paid day off is worth roughly your daily pay (salary ÷ ~260 workdays). Ten extra PTO days on a $100,000 salary is worth about $3,800 a year.

What about things I can't price?

This covers the financial package. Weigh it against the role, team, growth, stability, and work-life balance — which often matter more than a few thousand dollars.
