About the Ideal Weight Calculator

'Ideal weight' formulas give a rough reference range from height and sex. This shows several (Devine, Robinson, Miller, Hamwi) with their average. No single number is right for everyone — treat it as general context, not a goal.

How it’s calculated

Each formula starts from a base weight at 5 feet of height and adds a set amount per inch above that, differing by sex.

Example calculation

For a 175 cm male, the formulas cluster around 70 kg, with a spread of a few kilograms.

Frequently asked questions

Is there really one ideal weight?

No. These formulas ignore build, muscle, and age, and healthy weight spans a range. Use them as a rough reference, and ask a doctor about what's healthy for you.

How is this different from BMI?

BMI classifies a weight you already have; these formulas suggest a reference weight for your height. Both are general screening tools, not diagnoses.

This tool provides a general, informational estimate only. It is not medical advice and cannot diagnose, treat, or replace guidance from a qualified healthcare professional. Individual health depends on many factors this estimate does not capture. If you have questions about your health, talk to a doctor.
