How it’s calculated
Sections = length ÷ spacing (rounded up). Posts = sections + 1 for a straight run. Rails = sections × rails per section.
Example calculation
A 100 ft fence at 8 ft spacing needs 14 posts and 13 sections.
Frequently asked questions
What about corners and gates?
Add one extra post at each corner, and a gate takes the place of a section with its own posts. This estimate covers a single straight run.
How much concrete per post?
It depends on post and hole size, but many fence posts use about half a 60 lb bag each. Use the concrete calculator with your hole dimensions to be sure.
